- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- Add eggs, milk, neutral oil, vanilla, and mashed blackberries to the dry mixture and mix until smooth.
- Pour in warm water and stir carefully until just combined.
- Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 28–32 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- To make the frosting, combine butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, blackberry puree, and vanilla, and beat until fluffy.
- Once cooled, layer the cakes on a serving platter with frosting in between layers, then frost the top and sides beautifully.
