- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Thinly slice your four large potatoes using a mandoline or sharp knife.
- In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add in the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-5 minutes, or until the onions become translucent.
- Add 1 pound of ground beef to the skillet with the sautéed onions. Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of paprika, salt, and pepper to taste. Cook for 8-10 minutes until the beef is browned.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes along the bottom.
- Distribute the cooked beef mixture evenly over the first layer of potatoes.
- Pour half of the cream or milk evenly over the beef.
- Layer the remaining potato slices on top of the beef, followed by the remaining cream or milk.
- Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top, and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is melted.
- Let it cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
