Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently and shape into oval patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, reduce heat to low, add butter, and the drippings. Add onions and a pinch of salt. Cook for 8-10 minutes until golden-brown.
  4. Sprinkle flour over caramelized onions and stir to create a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned.
  5. Gradually whisk in beef broth and a splash of Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for about 5 minutes until thickened.
  6. Return the patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over each, and let simmer for 5-7 minutes. Ensure they reach an internal temperature of 160°F.
  7. Serve the Hamburger Steaks on a plate, spooning additional gravy over them.
